EVS, an innovator and pioneer in remote fire detection is seeking a motivated operator to join our Piet Retief team!

As an Operator at EVS, you’ll be at the heart of our Fire Detection Centre, monitoring ForestWatch – a cutting-edge surveillance and detection system, to identify and respond to potential fire events. Your alertness and attention to detail can help save lives, livelihoods, and our natural heritage. Be part of a team that makes a real impact in environmental protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor real-time camera feeds and detection alerts through the ForestWatch system to identify signs of smoke or fire
- Verify and log events accurately, ensuring all relevant information is recorded promptly and clearly
- Report incidents to supervisors and relevant stakeholders according to internal protocols and escalation procedures
- Maintain ongoing communication with other operators and field teams to ensure coordinated response
- Conduct routine system checks and report any technical issues or irregularities
- Capture and update incident data, daily logs, shift reports, and system status information
- Follow structured shift handover procedures to ensure continuity between teams
- Work in alignment with EVS’s safety, confidentiality, and service standards at all times
- Participate in ongoing training and refresher courses to ensure operational readiness
Requirements
- Matric certificate (minimum) and relevant certificate / diploma advantageous
- Basic computer literacy (MS Excel, data entry, email communication)
- Excellent observation skills and attention to detail
- Clear and professional communication – both verbal and written
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability
- Calm and focused in high-pressure situations
- Able to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
- Previous experience in a control room or similar environment is a bonus – but not required
