EVS, an innovator and pioneer in remote fire detection is seeking a motivated Technical Manager to join our Piet Retief team!
This role is ideal for someone with a solid technical background, strong people management skills, and the ability to balance planning with hands-on problem solving. The Technical Manager oversees all technical field operations at branch level - including equipment installations, tower maintenance, technician scheduling, safety compliance, and technical issue resolution. This is a team leadership role with close operational ties to the Detection Centre Manager to ensure seamless fire detection and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate daily schedules and priorities of the technician team
- Plan, oversee, and support the installation, maintenance, and repair of detection equipment on towers
- Ensure all technical work adheres to safety, quality, and operational standards
- Review and sign off on technical documentation, including installation records and maintenance logs
- Conduct quality checks and audits of field work
- Assist with escalated fault resolution, working with national technical support when required
- Enforce tower safety protocols and ensure staff are trained and equipped for climbs
- Maintain equipment inventory and procurement needs in coordination with head office
- Liaise with the Detection Centre Manager to ensure full system operability across monitored areas
- Train, mentor, and performance-manage field technicians, ensuring high accountability and teamwork
- Prepare reports on field operations, downtime incidents, and technical improvements
- Provide backup support to the technician team when necessary
Requirements 3–5 years' experience in a technical field role, ideally in telecommunications, remote sensing, or security systems
Previous experience managing or supervising a technical team
Strong understanding of tower-based equipment, transmission systems, and field diagnostics
Familiarity with occupational safety procedures, including working at heights
Good written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail
Computer literacy and ability to work with reporting tools and job tracking software
Hands-on mindset with excellent troubleshooting and team-building ability
Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regionally as required
Based in (or willing to relocate to) Piet Retief or surrounding area
