Description:
Our client is looking for an experienced HSE Manager with a strong background in construction health and safety to join their team in Swellendam, Western Cape, on a 20-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining, and reviewing all legal, statutory, and client HSE requirements on projects or sites, ensuring compliance and promoting a culture of safety.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement site-specific HSE policies, plans, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with legal, statutory, and client safety requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and establish control measures.
- Compile and obtain approval for site-specific safety, health, and environmental files.
- Communicate policies, procedures, and risk factors to employees and stakeholders.
- Organize required HSE training, including induction programs and medical surveillance.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Establish and manage a health and safety committee with regular safety meetings.
- Oversee HSE Officers, contractors, and sub-contractors.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Maintain records of safety performance, including reports and compliance documentation.
- Ensure proper incident reporting and investigation of near-miss events.
Requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
- SAMTRAC or equivalent (SHEMTRAC, NEBOSH, IRCON).
- SACPCMP registration in good standing.
- Safety Management Certificate.
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) certification.
- Root Cause Analysis Technique (RCAT) or equivalent incident investigation training.
- Auditing training and legal liability knowledge.
- At least five (5) years' experience in construction health & safety.
- Computer literacy essential, including the use of Lotus Notes, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong command of English (written and spoken).
- Salary: negotiable.
