Description:

Our client is looking for an experienced HSE Manager with a strong background in construction health and safety to join their team in Swellendam, Western Cape, on a 20-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining, and reviewing all legal, statutory, and client HSE requirements on projects or sites, ensuring compliance and promoting a culture of safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement site-specific HSE policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, statutory, and client safety requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and establish control measures.
  • Compile and obtain approval for site-specific safety, health, and environmental files.
  • Communicate policies, procedures, and risk factors to employees and stakeholders.
  • Organize required HSE training, including induction programs and medical surveillance.
  • Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Establish and manage a health and safety committee with regular safety meetings.
  • Oversee HSE Officers, contractors, and sub-contractors.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Maintain records of safety performance, including reports and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure proper incident reporting and investigation of near-miss events.

Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
  • SAMTRAC or equivalent (SHEMTRAC, NEBOSH, IRCON).
  • SACPCMP registration in good standing.
  • Safety Management Certificate.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) certification.
  • Root Cause Analysis Technique (RCAT) or equivalent incident investigation training.
  • Auditing training and legal liability knowledge.
  • At least five (5) years' experience in construction health & safety.
  • Computer literacy essential, including the use of Lotus Notes, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong command of English (written and spoken).
