Position overview:
To manage health and safety of all employees working on the construction site. To lead, manage, and coordinate Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and practices for Solar PV projects within South Africa. The HSE Manager ensures compliance with South African legal and regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies. The role aims to foster a safe work environment, promote zero harm, by leading and managing on-site HSE resources to ensure compliance.
Qualifications:
· Matric Qualification
· In position of a suitable HSE accreditation and also registered with SACPCMP in accordance with South African safety regulations
· National Diploma in Safety Management NQ6 or Advanced Diploma/Btech in Safety Safety Management at NQ7
Certifications:
Registration with the South African Council for Professional and Technical Chemists (SACPCMP) as CHSM/Pr.
Legal Liability / Construction Regulations 2014
ISO 45001:2018 Implementation/Auditing
Standards Knowledge:
Familiarity with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other relevant international and South African standards.
Skills and Experience:
· Shall have a minimum working experience of 10 years at site execution of photovoltaic project or any other mega construction site, and shall be a specialized professional
· 5 to 10 years of experience in managing Health, Safety, and Environment for projects, preferably within the renewable energy or construction sectors.
Proven experience with Solar PV projects in construction phase.
· Extensive knowledge of South African health and safety regulations and reporting procedures
· Strong written and oral communication
· Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
· Excellent ability to design and implement policies
· Ability to work independently with minimal direction or oversight
· Strong knowledge of South African HSE regulations, codes, and standards related to Solar PV and construction.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in additional South African languages
Responsibilities:
· Ensure that the organization adheres to South Africa’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), and other relevant regulations.
· Develop, implement, and monitor workplace safety plans and procedures.
· Conduct risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
· Review and approve risk assessments of contractors and conduct regular safety audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
