Wood Sander

Description:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Wood Sander to join our production team in the shopfitting manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for sanding wooden components and finished products to ensure a smooth, high-quality surface prior to assembly, finishing, or installation. This role is critical to achieving our standard of craftsmanship and delivering premium shopfitting solutions.

Sanding & Surface Preparation

• Sand raw wood and assembled parts using hand sanders, orbital sanders, and other sanding equipment.
• Prepare surfaces for finishing by removing imperfections such as rough edges, glue residue, or uneven grains
• Follow sanding instructions based on product type, wood species, and finishing requirements.
• Ensure consistent surface smoothness and uniformity across all workpieces.

  Quality Control

  • Visually inspect materials before and after sanding to ensure a high-quality finish.
  • Identify and report defects such as scratches, cracks, dents, or warped wood.
  • Work closely with the quality control or finishing team to meet client specifications and internal standards.

    Tool & Equipment Handling

    • Operate and maintain sanding equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance on sanding machines and hand tools.
    • Ensure all tools are used in accordance with safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.

      Production Workflow

      • Collaborate with carpenters, assemblers, and finishers to ensure smooth handovers between production stages.
      • Follow daily work schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet production targets.
      • Minimize material wastage and rework through attention to detail and proper technique.

        Health & Safety

        • Adhere strictly to company health and safety regulations, including the use of PPE such as masks, gloves, and ear protection.
        • Maintain a clean and safe work area, ensuring sanding dust and debris are managed effectively.
        • Report hazards, faulty equipment, or unsafe practices immediately to the supervisor.

          Requirements:

          • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in wood sanding or woodworking in a manufacturing or shopfitting environment.
          • Strong attention to detail and an eye for surface imperfections.
          • Basic understanding of wood types, grains, and sanding techniques.

            Desirable:

            • Experience working with solid wood, veneer, MDF, and plywood.
            • Familiarity with custom or high-end joinery and finishing standards.
