Technical Assistant (Grade 7)

Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics

The Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Bioinformatics invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team.

Main Objectives

Preparation and setting out of solutions and equipment required for practical’s; preparation of all plates and sterile growth media; some simple microbial manipulations; maintenance of a complete set of staining reagents. Cleaning of laboratories; stocking of Laboratory lockers; stock taking and safe storage of solvents; quarterly checking of laboratory equipment as part of the Preventative Maintenance Programme; moving of gas cylinders into laboratories

The Requirements

Grade 12 (Maths and Life science or physical science) plus approximately 3 years’ relevant experience, where such experience includes:

  • Knowledge of analytical procedures related to the biological sciences
  • Ability to work in an ordered and efficient way in the laboratory
  • Previous experience working in a lab in a science department

Remuneration per annum (Grade 7):

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R232,345.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R327,737.00
