Description:
Minimum Requirements:An Hons or MSc in immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or cell biology. Candidates with a BSc will also be considered depending on prior experience. Registration with HPCSA (Health professional council of South Africa) Laboratory experience working with infectious clinical samples. Research experience in infectious diseases. Experience with one of more of the follow techniques: ELISA, real-time PCR, other relevant molecular or immunology techniques, DNA extraction, GeneXpert platform, Line Probe Assays (LPA), drug sensitivity testing, culture techniques. Computer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Internet; Data Management Systems advantageous) Knowledge of medical terminology (especially relating to TB) Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP/GLP) Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Assisting with logistics regarding appropriate collection, transport and storage of specimens. Ensuring appropriate processing of specimens in the laboratories. Performing relevant scientific experiments in line with needs of specific research projects. Ensuring laboratory safety. Ensuring site and laboratory equipment is functioning appropriately. Ensuring good Quality Assurance and Quality Control. Liaising between laboratory and clinical staff. Assisting the data team with laboratory data queries. Assisting with the development of relevant SOPs. Curating data and sharing with the database base manager.
Additional Information:
This position will be based in Cape Town Working hours 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday The annual remuneration is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience Candidate will be required to work with in a busy TB laboratory.
