Description:
Purpose of Positon:
Interpretation and implementation of established procedures to prepare appropriate specimens for both cytogenetic and FISH analysis, performing of that analysis, and preparation and description of the results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical procedures start to end following correct SOP’s. Handling, preparation and processing of various Cytogenetic and FISH specimens.
- Knowledge of appropriate culture techniques, harvesting techniques and chromosome banding and staining techniques.
- Maintenance and use of Automatic Scanning and Capturing Metasystems System and analysis of all Cytogenetic and FISH sample types.
- Reading scientific literature and writing reports. Keeping up to date with new techniques, and literature.
- Assisting/assuring that patient’s results are sent out within laboratory TAT.
Applicants must have a South African ID or a valid South African work permit.

- Laboratory Work: 1 to 2 years
- Solid Level Of Knowledge In Genetics: 1 to 2 years
- Cytogenetics / FISH: 1 to 2 years
Requirements:
- Registered with the HPCSA is the qualifying criteria
- Must hold a B.Tech/ND in Laboratory/Medical Technology or related scientific disciplines
- 1-2 years working experience in the Cytogenetic/FISH laboratory
- Strong knowledge and proven experience in Cytogenetics and FISH
- Certification/training in good clinical laboratory practice (GCLP) and basic health and safety.
- Knowledge of medical ethical guidelines
- Experience in MS Office
- Must be able to work in a team
- Excellent communication skills and punctuality
- Accuracy in the laboratory is of great importance
