Junior mechanical design engineer

A defence company in Pretoria is seeking a mechanical design engineer. a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced armored vehicle platforms, providing innovative defense solutions to clients around the world. Our vehicles are built to perform in the most demanding environments, and every detail counts. We're currently looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the next generation of high-performance military vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems for armored vehicles.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in compliance with engineering standards.
• Work closely with senior engineers to support prototype builds and testing.
• Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, and engineering change processes.
• Ensure manufacturability and assembly efficiency through design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, electrical, and production departments.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships or project experience in vehicle/mechanical design preferred).
• Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo.
• Basic knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, and mechanical systems.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Passion for defense technology, engineering innovation, and hands-on development.
• Familiarity with military standards or defense projects is a plus, but not required.
