1. Position OverviewThe Transport Controller (Night Shift) plays a pivotal role in the real-time monitoring and coordination of the company’s transport fleet handling Class 1 Explosives and other Dangerous Goods. This role ensures that safety, legal compliance, and operational efficiency are maintained throughout all night-time logistical activities.2. Key Responsibilities

Fleet Monitoring & Tracking
-
Monitor real-time vehicle locations via fleet management and telematics software.

Ensure drivers adhere to designated routes, rest periods, and delivery schedules.

Proactively respond to route deviations, delays, or technical alerts.

Driver Compliance & Safety Oversight
-
Enforce adherence to speed limits, resting schedules (per BCEA and RTMS), and safe driving practices.

Verify that all Dangerous Goods and Explosives transport regulations (as per SANDF, SAPS CIE, and NDAC guidelines) are strictly followed.

Log and report any non-compliance, accidents, or near-miss incidents.

Communication & Coordination

Act as the primary night-shift contact for drivers on the road.

Maintain continuous communication to provide support or rerouting instructions during emergencies or breakdowns.

Escalate security breaches or operational anomalies to management and/or SAPS immediately.

Reporting & Administration
-
Compile daily shift reports detailing fleet status, driver logs, incidents, and maintenance flags.

Submit electronic journey logs and documentation for compliance audits.

Log violations, penalties, or deviations in the company’s compliance register.3. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:
-
Grade 12 (Matric) essential.
-
A diploma in Logistics, Road Transport Management, or Fleet Operations is advantageous.

Valid Dangerous Goods training certificate (preferred).

Experience:
-
Minimum 3–5 years in a transport operations environment, preferably with exposure to hazardous cargo or military logistics.

Prior experience in a 24/7 operations control room or fleet monitoring centre is highly beneficial.

Skills & Competencies:
-
Strong knowledge of RTMS, ISO, SQAS, and legal driving regulations under BCEA.
-
Familiarity with National Road Traffic Act, SANDF/NDAC explosive transport protocols.
-
High attention to detail and situational awareness.
-
Excellent communication skills, especially under pressure.
-
Proficient in logistics software (Mix Telematics, C-Track, Fleetcam, or similar).4. Behavioral Attributes
