Job Title: Workshop Technician (Motor Industry)
Job Summary:
The Workshop Technician in the motor industry plays a critical role in the maintenance, repair, and service of motor vehicles. This position requires strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills to ensure vehicles are in optimal working condition. The technician will be responsible for performing routine and complex repairs, conducting diagnostic tests, and ensuring vehicles meet safety and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:


Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine maintenance services (oil changes, brake repairs, tire rotations, etc.) and more complex repairs (engine diagnostics, transmission repairs, etc.) on motor vehicles.


Diagnostic Testing: Use diagnostic equipment and tools to identify mechanical, electrical, or electronic issues in vehicles. Interpret error codes and troubleshoot to determine the root cause of vehicle problems.


Inspection & Quality Control: Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and identify any defects or necessary repairs.


System Overhauls: Perform major repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, suspension systems, exhaust systems, and other vehicle components.


Customer Communication: Communicate effectively with customers to explain the issues identified, the repairs needed, and provide accurate cost estimates and timelines.


Parts & Inventory Management: Order, manage, and track inventory of parts and tools required for repairs. Ensure that parts are of high quality and meet the necessary specifications.


Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and time spent on each vehicle. Report any unusual conditions or trends to management.


Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. Follow safety protocols for handling equipment, hazardous materials, and working in the workshop.


Technical Support: Provide technical support to junior technicians or apprentices, offering guidance on repairs and troubleshooting.


Continuous Learning: Keep up to date with new vehicle technologies, tools, and repair methods through training and professional development opportunities.


Required Skills & Qualifications:


Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A technical certificate in automotive repair or a related field (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds) is preferred.


Experience: Proven experience working as an automotive technician or in a similar role in the motor industry. Experience with a variety of vehicle makes and models is a plus.


Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, air conditioning, brakes, and more.


Diagnostic Skills: Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and software to identify and troubleshoot vehicle issues.


Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills to identify the cause of vehicle issues and find effective solutions.


Attention to Detail: Ability to carefully inspect and test all aspects of a vehicle to ensure repairs are completed to a high standard.


Customer Service: Strong communication skills to explain vehicle issues to customers and offer professional advice on necessary repairs.


Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy parts, work in awkward positions, and stand for long periods.


Driving License: A valid driver’s license is typically required.


Desired Skills:


Knowledge of Latest Technologies: Experience with electric or hybrid vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), or other modern vehicle technologies.


Certification: Relevant automotive certifications (e.g., ASE, IMI) or manufacturer-specific training can be beneficial.


Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and repair schedules.
