Description:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Welding Inspector to join our team in the mining manufacturing sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring welding processes, procedures, and quality standards comply with industry regulations and company specifications. This role requires expertise in welding inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), and adherence to health and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct inspections on welded structures and components to ensure compliance with applicable welding codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Review and verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material certifications.
  • Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) such as Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), and Radiographic Testing (RT).
  • Monitor welding processes to detect potential defects and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Document and report any deviations, defects, or non-conformances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Liaise with engineering and production teams to ensure quality assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in welding and manufacturing operations.
  • Assist in the training and development of welders and quality control personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, reports, and quality documentation.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: Matric (Grade 12) and relevant technical qualification in welding or metallurgy.
  • Certifications: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent qualification (e.g., AWS, SAIW Level 1 or 2, CSWIP 3.1/3.2).
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in welding inspection within the mining, heavy engineering, or manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge:
    • Proficiency in international welding codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS D1.1, ISO 3834, API 1104, BS EN 1090).
    • Strong understanding of NDT methods and procedures.
    • Familiarity with material properties, welding defects, and heat treatment processes.
  • Skills:
    • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
    • Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to mining and manufacturing sites.
    • Strong commitment to health and safety compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Additional NDT certifications (UT, MPI, RT, PT Level II or III).
  • Experience working in the mining industry or a similar heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
