Description:
Senior RPG Developer required in Fourways that is responsible to lead the design, development, and maintenance of RPG-based applications in our insurance environment. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in system enhancements, performance optimization, and mentoring junior developers. This role requires a deep understanding of RPG programming, insurance business operations, and enterprise application architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and enhancement of RPG IV, RPG Free, CL, and DB2-based applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform. Architect, design, and implement scalable solutions to support business growth and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives. Conduct code reviews, performance tuning, and system optimisations to enhance application efficiency. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate developers. Develop and maintain API integrations with third-party systems. Ensure system security, data integrity, and compliance with industry standards. Participate in project planning, effort estimation, and technical documentation. Troubleshoot complex issues and provide Level 3 support for production environments.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in RPG programming on IBM i (AS/400) platforms. Expertise in RPG IV, RPG Free, CL, SQL, and DB2 database management. Understanding of insurance systems, underwriting, claims processing, and policy management. Experience with modernizing legacy systems, API development, and web services integration. Knowledge of Agile methodologies, DevOps, and CI/CD practices. Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills. Proven experience in technical leadership and mentoring junior developers. Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to business stakeholders.
