Description:
A global leader in testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) services is seeking experienced Mechanical Technicians to support the construction, testing, and commissioning of a large-scale solar PV power plant in Limpopo.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a utility-scale renewable energy project, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance throughout the mechanical and electrical installation phases.
Contract Duration: 6 Months
Requirements:
Trade-Tested Mechanical Technician (Millwright, Fitter & Turner, Boilermaker) N4/N5/N6 Mechanical Engineering Certificate (Technical College) 4+ years of post-trade experience (at least 2 years in solar, renewable energy, or power plant projects) Proficiency in welding inspections, mechanical fastenings, and material verification Experience in quality control, torque testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems Strong understanding of OHS Act, SHEQ standards, and ISO 9001 compliance Preferred Certifications & Additional Training:Welding Inspection Certification (SAQCC, CSWIP, or AWS)
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT Level 1 or 2)
Lifting Equipment & Hoisting Certification (Rigging, Crane Safety)
ISO 9001:2015 Quality Control & Assurance Training
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Installation & Quality Control – Ensure all mechanical works are executed according to approved drawings, standards, and project specifications Equipment Inspection & Testing – Verify that mechanical components, including mounting structures, tracking systems, and mechanical fasteners, are properly installed and undamaged during commissioning Material & Weld Inspections – Assess material certificates, verify storage conditions, and inspect welding procedures (WPS & PQR, NDT) Torque & Tension Testing – Perform verification of bolted connections, corrosion protection, and mechanical fastening integrity Preventative Maintenance & Risk Management – Identify and address potential mechanical sys
