Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Onboarding:
Manage the full recruitment cycle for retail positions, including posting job openings (often with quick turnaround times), screening resumes, coordinating interviews (often high volume), and conducting background checks.
Focus on recruiting candidates with strong customer service skills and a passion for retail.
Manage the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing offer letters, conducting orientation sessions specific to retail operations (e.g., POS systems, customer service protocols), and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed.
Employee Relations:
Provide support and guidance to employees and managers on HR policies and procedures, particularly those relevant to retail operations (e.g., scheduling, breaks, uniform policies).
Assist in resolving employee relations issues, such as grievances and disciplinary actions, in a fair and consistent manner, often dealing with situations unique to retail (e.g., customer interactions, theft).
Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy and confidentiality.
Compensation & Benefits:
Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and terminations.
Support the payroll process by providing accurate employee data, including hours worked, overtime, and any retail-specific bonuses or incentives.

HR Administration:
Maintain and update HR databases and systems.
Prepare HR reports and metrics as needed, often focusing on retail-specific metrics like turnover, time-to-fill, and employee engagement.
Assist with the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures relevant to the retail environment.
Manage HR-related administrative tasks, such as filing, photocopying, and scheduling.

Compliance (Retail Focus):
Stay up-to-date on relevant labor laws and regulations, including those specific to the retail industry (e.g., working hours, minimum wage, breaks).
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in all HR activities.
Assist with internal and external audits related to HR compliance.

Training & Development (Retail Specific):
Assist with the coordination of employee training and development programs, including training on product knowledge, customer service skills, sales techniques, clockings and POS systems.
Track employee training progress and maintain training records.

Performance Management (Retail Focus):
Support the performance management process for retail staff, including appraisals, counselling and disciplining, often tied to sales goals and customer satisfaction metrics.

Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by the HR Manager/Director or Store Manager.
