Description:
Role Purpose:To oversee the daily operations of the CCTV control room to ensure the safety, security, and
protection of retail and logistics sites, assets, staff, and customers. This includes supervising
operators, monitoring systems, responding to incidents, and ensuring compliance with
relevant legislation and company policy.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight
- Supervise day-to-day operations within the CCTV control room.
- Ensure all surveillance systems are fully functional, maintained, and monitored 24/7.
- Maintain accurate incident logs and shift handover reports.
- Ensure continuous surveillance of designated areas to detect and prevent potential security threats.
Team Management
- Lead, train, and motivate a team of CCTV operators to maintain high performance.
- Allocate shift schedules and ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and contribute to operator development.
Incident Management & Reporting
- Respond promptly to alarms and suspicious activities; escalate to the appropriate internal or external bodies.
- Coordinate with site management, emergency services, and law enforcement as needed.
- Investigate and report all security incidents, thefts, health and safety breaches, and suspicious behavior.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure all surveillance activities are compliant with Data Protection, and relevant local laws.
- Conduct regular system audits and ensure the secure storage and proper handling of recorded footage.
- Maintain awareness of company policies and procedures relating to retail shrinkage, health & safety, and logistics.
- Monitor movement of high-value goods through warehouse and dispatch areas.
- Support loss prevention strategies across store and distribution environments.
- Monitor staff adherence to delivery and receiving protocols.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CCTV surveillance systems, alarm systems, access control, and basic IT troubleshooting.
- Leadership: Strong supervisory and team leadership skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to produce clear, detailed reports.
- Problem-Solving: Quick-thinking, decisive, and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Attention to Detail: High level of vigilance and accuracy in observation and reporting.
- Ability to analyze historical incident data to identify patterns (e.g., peak times for theft/hijacking and robbery, high-risk zones, repeat offenders, reduce false alarms).
- Integrity & Confidentiality: Trustworthy with sensitive information.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience in a CCTV control room environment (preferably in retail/logistics).
- Grade 12 and relevant tertiary qualification
- Experience supervising a team is essential.
- Knowledge of security operations, loss prevention strategies, and emergency procedures.
- Experience with DAHUA software that uses AI or analytics to flag unusual behaviour, motion, or heatmaps is an advantage.
Working Conditions:
- Shift work including weekends, nights, and holidays may be required.
- High-security clearance may be necessary depending on the sensitivity of the site.
