Description:
Responsible for the seamless 24/7 broadcast of the Newzroom Afrika channel, including ad insertions and switching between live news and recorded programming.
Reports to: POSTPRODUCTION & MCR Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate with the Scheduling Department on the daily schedule and Final Program Clock (FPC); verify for errors before uploading.
- Prepare and manage the daily playlist on the playout automation system.
- Liaise with the Production Control Room (PCR) and the Executive Producer on duty to align live bulletins with the playout schedule.
- Insert special graphics such as bugs, logos, or lower-thirds, as required.
- Conduct technical quality control (QC) before any content is added to the playlist.
- Alert the Post Production Coordinator and/or MCR Manager if any program fails QC and ensure issues are resolved before transmission.
- Monitor broadcast and off-air signals to detect and report interruptions or anomalies.
- Report technical issues to Engineering or IT, and follow through until resolution with minimal broadcast disruption.
- Follow the correct recovery procedures during automation or playout system failures.
- Assist in refining playout system workflows and identify areas for operational improvement.
- Ensure a detailed shift handover is completed, with all relevant logs and reports updated accurately.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant qualification in Film, Television.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Master Control Room/FCC or any other Television Channel Playout environment.
- Strong working knowledge of broadcast operations and technology.
- Understanding of media management systems, IT infrastructure in broadcast, and postproduction workflows.
- Proficiency in computer systems related to broadcast operations.
