This role is ideal for a practical, hands-on Bookkeeper who enjoys variety, client interaction, and has the ability to manage multiple sets of books confidently and accurately. You’ll be responsible for full bookkeeping to trial balance across a group of small to medium-sized businesses. From client take-ons and reconciliations to tax submissions and payroll processing — you’ll own the numbers and liaise directly with clients to help them understand their finances. This is a hybrid role with a balance between working from home and the office.
Minimum Requirements:
3+ years’ experience as a bookkeeper up to trial balance
Proficient in VAT201 and EMP201 submissions via SARS eFiling
Experience with payroll processing (Sage, Pastel, Paymaster, or SimplePay)
Experience in accounting systems (Sage One, Xero, Zoho, QuickBooks Online, Pastel)
Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and online tools like Clockify and Syft
Able to work on multiple companies simultaneously (20+ books)
Valid driver’s license and own transport (for client visits)
Comfortable visiting clients and presenting financial information
Strong numerical and analytical ability
Ability to work independently and take ownership
Great communication and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational and time management skills
Able to multitask across multiple clients and deadlines
Duties and Responsibilities:
Full bookkeeping to trial balance for ±20 clients
Monthly VAT and payroll submissions (VAT201, EMP201)
Processing and reconciling bank accounts, creditors, debtors, and balance sheet items
Capturing and posting journal entries
Supporting client queries and assisting them in understanding their financial reports
Setting up new client books and opening balances
Managing payroll processing and statutory submissions
Some income tax knowledge would be beneficial
Assist in the preparation of trial balances for review by external accountants
Visiting clients where required
Working Hours & Structure
Monday to Friday, 08h00 – 16h00
15 annual leave days (includes December shutdown)
Hybrid setup – mix of office and work-from-home
Office based in Northern Suburbs, Cape Town
