Job summary
To plan, monitor, coordinate and oversee the Unit’s operations and processes to ensure quality patient care and the overall running of the unit including but not limited to managing the ward clerks, RN, EN and ENA’s roles and responsibilities. Take responsibility for the mentoring, coaching, training, and development of nursing staff and managing the Unit budget and ensuring cost saving and stakeholder engagement.
Job requirements:
Conduct ward rounds to ensure compliance with protocols, security, safe patient environment, policies, procedures and the Group’s patient care standards.
Inform and educate patients about the Group’s complaints procedure and “The Voice” patient experience platform.
Implement, monitor, and control service (nursing) delivery processes according to quality standards, policy, compliance and governance requirements.
Ensure the alignment and implementation of end-to-end standard operating procedures / processes in line with hospital policies
Build professional long-term relationships with internal (Doctors, Nurses, Hospital Administrators)
Work with internal key leaders to build an escalation chain for internal crises (patient care and unit ops related)
Implement people resource planning in line with delivery and performance objectives.
Conduct on the job training, coaching and mentoring to direct reports to ensure development of team and improvement of overall service delivery
Comply with cost controls in order to achieve Unit budget
Report on cost usage that reflects delivery of planned work within agreed parameters
Compile and report on operational information to feed into management decisions and support the hospital’s tactical strategy and efficiencies
Adhere to statutory standards, policies and procedures within the unit to ensure compliance at all times and take remedial action where necessary
Oversee the detailed recording of medical consumables to ensure accurate billing
Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction and to streamline processes
Contribute to the successful implementation of change initiatives by providing support related to own area of specialisation/accountability.
Mentors staff and students in the Critical Care Unit to develop expertise in the care of critically ill patients
Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, review, discuss and co-ordinate best approach to overall patient care.
Encourages the demonstration of sensitivity to medico-legal risks related to monitoring and therapeutic interventions in ICU and consciously avoids them or reports them accordingly.
Contribute to a culture of internal and external customer service excellence, which builds positive relationships and provides opportunities for feedback and exceptional service.
Implement processes which build customer service delivery excellence and encourages others to provide exceptional service.
Leads the development of appropriate discharge plans concurrently with other interventions of the critically ill patient
Advocates for and leads staff in preserving and protecting of the autonomy, dignity, rights, values, beliefs and preferences of the health care user and family in the midst of dehumanizing environment such as high technology, buzzing alarms, complex decision making like termination of life support considering applicable the code of conduct, Pledge of Service, Patient’s Rights Charter, Batho Pele Principles

B.Cur/Diploma in General Nursing
BLS
Nursing Administration or relevant qualification
Current registration as Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
Updated ACLS/PALS/ATLS advantageous
3+ years’ experience at a managerial/supervisory level.
Experienced in Critical Care Nursing
Experience within a private hospital environment advantageous
