Role Overview
The Chemist – Analyst is responsible for conducting laboratory testing and analysis of fluid samples using established methods, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with quality standards and health and safety regulations. This role involves managing the technical evaluation of results, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and assisting with quality assurance and internal reporting processes.
The position is suited to a technically minded, hands-on individual with strong laboratory and analytical experience, preferably within an engineering or industrial fluid environment.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct analysis of all fluid samples using relevant procedures and test method instructions.

Evaluate and interpret analytical results, identifying abnormalities and implementing remedial actions.

Generate detailed reports, including technical opinions and interpretations of test results.

Monitor and verify laboratory instruments and maintain testing apparatus.
-
Perform minor maintenance and calibration of laboratory and sample preparation equipment.
-
Identify and communicate quality control issues or biases to the Section Manager promptly.

Assist in diagnosing suspect results and resolving underlying equipment or procedural issues.
-
Support quality management through internal meetings, documentation, and reporting of improvements.
-
Address client queries and complaints in a professional and timely manner.

Assist with the validation of new test methods under supervision of the Section Manager.

Participate in relevant technical training and development programmes.
Requirements:

- Chemists: 4 to 5 years
-
Matric (Grade 12) required.
-
Preferable: National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, BTech Chemistry, or BSc in Chemistry.

3–5 years’ experience in a laboratory or technical role, ideally within engineering or customer service environments.

Good working knowledge of fluid power systems and/or mining equipment is advantageous.
-
Valid driver’s license.
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Fluency in English (spoken and written).
-
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to laboratory accuracy and quality control.

Ability to follow technical procedures and standards rigorously.
-
Proactive problem-solver with a practical mindset.
