Step into a role that makes an impact! We’re seeking a Services and Building Maintenance Supervisor to drive success NBL Durban Tea in Durban, KwaZulu Natal . The Services and Building Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the upkeep, functionality, and compliance of all site services infrastructure and building facilities. Operating within a regulated FMCG food-manufacturing environment, this role ensures high engineering standards are applied across all maintenance activities, with a focus on quality of workmanship, operational continuity, and food safety compliance.
The role oversees critical infrastructure including substations, HVAC, fire protection, water systems, and material handling equipment. The incumbent will lead internal teams and manage contractor performance to deliver maintenance work to specification, schedule, and cost, while meeting GMP and FSSC 22000 standards.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Key Areas of Impact:
- Utilities and Services Infrastructure
- Oversee the maintenance and operational integrity of electrical substations and distribution, HVAC systems and compressed air, fire equipment, water supply infrastructure and sanitation.
- Building and Structural Maintenance
- All building and road infrastructure.
- Ensure the facility meets all relevant food safety, structural integrity, and audit requirements.
- Material Handling Equipment
- Manage the servicing and repair of high-speed warehouse doors, dock levellers goods hoists, forklifts, and pallet trucks
- Preventative and Corrective Maintenance
- Implement and manage the preventative maintenance program for site services and facilities
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of job cards and maintenance records.
- Contractor and Project Management
- Scope, plan, and oversee infrastructure and services-related projects.
- Manage contractor induction, performance, safety compliance, and quality of work.
- Hold service providers accountable to technical specifications, timelines, and site protocols.
- Standards and Compliance
- Enforce engineering, quality and safety standards across all maintenance activities.
- Ensure all work complies with GMP, FSSC 22000, SANS, and municipal regulations.
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, inspection records, and compliance certificates
- Cost Management and Procurement
- Review maintenance budgets and monitor spend.
- Source and approve quotations for spares and services.
- Track and reconcile contractor invoices against scope of work.
What It Takes to Succeed:
Experience that set you up for success:
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in planning and scheduling, contractor management, infrastructure/services maintenance within an FMCG or food manufacturing facility
Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:
- N4-N6 or Btech in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred
Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success:
- Role requires after-hours availability for breakdowns or critical faults.
- Work includes exposure to high-risk areas (rooftops, substations, confined spaces).
- Active participation in site hygiene audits and compliance reviews.
- Occasional travel may be required for benchmarking or group projects
