The role:

The role is responsible for managing the Mine Closure Operations (MCO) engineering and projects function to plan and execute projects on the respective operations, plant and equipment in a safe and sustainable manner through the application of benchmarked standards. This requires executing project management duties from approval through to scheduling, planning, estimating, cost control and reporting processes.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Ensure compliance to the company’s business conduct
  • Ensure corporate governance through compliance to corporate policies
  • Provide input into the project’s portfolio and related annual budget, plans and schedules
  • Where required, support feasibility studies, cost-benefits analyses, impact assessments and project business cases to obtain project approvals
  • Developing and reviewing contract documents throughout the full duration of projects
  • Ensure regular auditing of projects in progress to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget, and time-based requirements and respond appropriately to resolve deviations
  • Ensure that legislative requirements, codes of practice, standard operating procedures and group standards are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate regular inspection and monitoring programmes for projects and maintenance work
  • Review and authorize modifications to assets in accordance with the Management of Change process
  • Schedule audits (HSEC, ISO, Other)
  • Assure sustainability of solutions
  • Align design strategy to customer business requirements (scope of work and mission profile)
  • Provide Strategic and Change Leadership to the project team
  • Identify and understand customer needs
  • Develop a constructive working relationship with operational, project and support staff
  • Compile team and individual performance agreements in line with KPIs
  • Conduct Performance and Talent Management reviews
  • Manage a portfolio of improvement initiatives and projects
  • Identify opportunities in line with Business Excellence
  • Review and obtain a commitment from all parties to the final schedule (Sign-Off)
  • Plan, organise and allocate work
  • Determine resource requirements to operate and maintain facility or equipment (Labour and Cost)
  • Assist operational team with SAP planning work.

Requirements:

  • Degree or National Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience operating in the project management discipline
  • Experience in SAP planning
  • Experience in coal mining and understanding the nature of opportunities and issues faced by operations
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation
  • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous:

  • Project Management Qualification
  • Studying towards Government Certificate of Competency (GCC)
  • Experience or knowledge in the mine closure space
