Reporting To
- Insurance Executive
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Strategy & Monitoring
- Develop and implement tools to monitor compliance and assess regulatory risks
- Keep leadership and stakeholders updated on compliance risks and obligations
- Continuously monitor and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements
- Review and update company policies, procedures, and frameworks to align with regulatory developments
Regulatory Engagement & Risk Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between group compliance and business units
- Provide expert guidance on regulatory matters and align practices with industry standards
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and recommend effective compliance solutions
- Stay informed on regulatory changes to ensure proactive compliance
Contractual & Legal Compliance
- Review key contractual agreements such as binder agreements, intermediary agreements, outsourcing contracts, reinsurance treaties, and non-disclosure agreements
- Ensure contractual compliance with applicable industry regulations and company policies
Training & Compliance Awareness
- Design and deliver compliance training programs for employees and key stakeholders
- Foster a strong culture of compliance throughout the organization
Audits, Reporting & Governance
- Conduct internal compliance audits to evaluate regulatory adherence
- Assist in preparing and submitting statutory reports to regulatory bodies and insurers
- Support management in creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Facilitate external audits and regulatory inspections
Risk Prevention & Reputation Management
- Proactively prevent regulatory breaches that could cause financial loss
- Protect and enhance the organization’s reputation by managing reputational risks
- Ensure compliance to avoid regulatory penalties and sanctions
Skills and Experience
- At least 10 years of risk and compliance management experience within the insurance sector
- In-depth knowledge of South African insurance legislation, including:
- Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA)
- Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS)
- Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles
- Insurance Act
- Short-term and Long-term Insurance Acts
- Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
- Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent understanding of business operations with the capability to integrate compliance functions effectively
- Well-developed administrative and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage effectively across all levels of the organization
- Experience developing and implementing compliance frameworks aligned with business goals
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent
- RE5 Certification
