Key Responsibilities
- Develop complex 2D CAD electrical design drawings in collaboration with drafting teams.
- Apply in-depth knowledge across a broad range of electrical systems, including:
- Medium and Low Voltage (MV/LV) overhead lines and switchgear
- Motor control centres (MCCs)
- Lighting and power layouts
- Earthing and lightning protection systems
- Generator and UPS installations
- Security systems: CCTV, access control
- Fire detection systems
- Building/Parking Management Systems
- Energy-efficient and green building technologies
- Exposure to renewable energy systems (solar, wind, etc.) is beneficial
- Prepare detailed electrical documentation.
- Design calculations and reports
- Single-line and schematic diagrams
- General layouts, routing, racking, and panel arrangements
- Equipment data sheets, cable schedules, and BOQs
- Compile tender documentation and contribute to evaluation processes.
- Participate in system design reviews, field inspections, and technical meetings.
- Produce accurate progress reports and provide project design inputs from concept through execution.
Key Requirements
- BSc/BEng/BTech in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in electrical building services and rural electrification design.
- Proven ability to lead and deliver complete electrical designs on greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Familiarity with integration into existing electrical infrastructure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to liaise across teams and present to stakeholders.
- Competency in AutoCAD, Revit, and lighting design tools such as DIALux.
- Advantageous: Experience with integrated design tools (e.g., ETAP, DigSilent, DesSoft, SmartPlant, Power Office, Bentley).
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Experience managing contracts under GCC and JBCC frameworks, including handling claims and variations.
- Prior involvement in tender processes: documentation, bid presentations, and committee evaluations.
- Willingness to travel to sites and relocate to Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
- Valid Code B (08) driver’s license.
- Proficiency in English; isiZulu is advantageous.
- Strong team collaboration skills with withthe ability to take ownership of design from start to finish.
