Our client in Ottery, Cape Town is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead their manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, along with Matric (Grade 12). With a minimum of 10 years’ experience in manufacturing and at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, the successful applicant will bring a strong background in plastic manufacturing, injection molding, printing, and assembly operations. A hands-on approach, combined with expertise in mechanical systems, Lean Manufacturing, and ISO systems, is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, coupled with strong leadership, decision-making, and accountability, will be key to success in this role. REQUIREMENTS:

DUTIES:
Operational Leadership and Accountability:
- Take ownership of the plant's performance – oversee and manage all plant operations, ensuring optimal performance across injection molding, printing, and assembly processes.
- Ensure production schedules are met with consistent adherence to quality, safety, and efficiency standards.
- Address challenges proactively and maintain a systems-thinking approach.
Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement:
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflows, reduce waste, and enhance overall plant efficiency.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, empowering teams to identify and solve operational challenges proactively.
- Drive technological upgrades and adapt processes to meet evolving demands.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork and continuous improvement.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure strict adherence to ISO systems and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with quality teams to uphold high-quality standards across all operations.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 200 employees, fostering a positive and productive workplace culture.
- Build capacity within the team to manage complexity and ensure high performance in a demanding environment.
Equipment and Technology Management:
- Maintain a hands-on approach to understanding and optimizing the performance of injection molding machinery.
- Stay updated on advancements in machinery and technology, driving upgrades to maintain a competitive edge.
Strategic Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement strategic operational plans aligned with the company's business objectives.
- Manage budgets, resource allocation, and capital projects to ensure sustainable growth and profitability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the supply chain, sales, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of operations.
- Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers, to support operational goals.
- Balance operational priorities with customer needs, ensuring satisfaction and timely delivery of high-quality products.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure organizational health and safety standards and safe working practices are maintained.
- Work safely and report safety hazards or issues.
- Report any accidents, incidents, and near misses.
Food (Product) Safety:
- Food safety standards are site-specific, and at these sites, employees should:
- Apply the site’s food safety principles and standards.
- Report on any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager.
- Comply with and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the company’s FSMS (Food Safety Management System).
- Apply the company’s quality principles and standards.
- Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Reporting and Administration:
- Complete all reports and administration related to the position.
