Our client is a market leader in motor engineering and heavy-duty diesel engine services with over 50 years of experience in the mining and industrial sectors. They are seeking a Diesel Engine Specialist / Field Service Technician to join their team in Steelpoort, Limpopo, to support their expanding operations in the region.Role Purpose:To provide reliable, efficient, and safe mechanical field service by performing maintenance, repairs, and installations on diesel engines and associated machinery. This role ensures optimal equipment availability, minimal breakdowns, and compliance with safety and operational standards on customer sites. Key Responsibilities:- Conduct maintenance, servicing, and repairs of diesel engines on-site for mining and heavy-duty applications
- Perform and oversee pre-use inspections to ensure safety, compliance with Codes of Practice, and company procedures
- Remove and install engine components efficiently and safely on customer sites
- Complete accurate machine diagnostics, inspections, and technical reports
- Maintain strong communication with supervisors and team members to ensure smooth operations
- Manage spare parts and fuel usage effectively through proper planning and stock control systems
- Promote and practice good housekeeping and environmental compliance at all times
- Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards and mine safety regulations
- Represent the company professionally while working at client sites
- Provide after-hours support when operationally required
- Trade Test Certificate (Section 26D)
- Completed Apprenticeship with all 3 phases signed off
- Matric Certificate
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience in a similar field environment
- Proven experience working on diesel engines, including Deutz, Cummins, John Deere, CAT, and similar heavy-duty brands
- Hydraulic systems knowledge and experience
- Proficient in English and Afrikaans (written and verbal)
- Background working on Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM), including Scoops, Dump Trucks, Utility Vehicles, and Drill Rigs
- Previous mining industry experience
- Basic knowledge of general standards and procedural compliance
- Experience in hydraulic and auto-electrical fault finding
- Operating experience on TMM and earthmoving equipment
- Deliver high-quality field service on diesel engine equipment
- Ensure quick response to breakdowns and efficient problem resolution
- Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, and service activities
- Maintain professional conduct and communication with clients
- Take ownership of performance, time management, and task execution
- Willingness to work overtime and after-hours when required
