In this role, you will be required to assist with the overall support of the fishmeal factories on board the Freezer Vessels, ensuring all records are kept up to date and compliance of the export requirements are met. Ensure all freezer vessels fishmeal plants are in optimum condition in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), with regard to machinery, thereby getting maximum output in fishmeal plant from every vessel. You will also be responsible for the overall control of the production, maintenance, stock control and personnel management.

Key Areas of Impact:

Maintenance:

  • Supervise and sign off on all maintenance and repairs.
  • Implement preventative maintenance on all fishmeal plant equipment like Dryers, Boilers and Scrubbers.
  • Plant assets need to be maintained to perform and operate continuously, safely, and regular feedback about improvements discussed or performed.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the production process is carried out in a safe and healthy manner. This includes implementing health and safety protocols, conducting regular safety inspections, and ensuring all staff are trained in safe working practices.
  • Ensure all freezer vessels fishmeal plants are kept in optimum condition in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), with regard to machinery, thereby getting maximum output in fishmeal plant from every vessel.
  • Drawing up fixed and reliable maintenance schedule, in conjunction with ship specific engineers and fishmeal operators, to eliminate unforeseen breakdowns and plant stoppages, which affect production output.
  • Sailing on freezer vessels to establish and improve ship and shore relations with various role players, like the Vessel Superintendent and Ship Engineers, with sights on plant, production, and safety improvement. Possible improvements discussed with role players, like magnet fittings or metal detectors.

Stock Control:

  • Ordering of all required resources for the fishmeal plant like tea, coffee, paint, machine parts, safety and protective clothing, fuel and more.
  • Responsible for managing the budget for the fishmeal production process. This includes ensuring that the production process is cost effective, identifying areas for cost savings, and implementing cost control measures.

Personnel Management:

  • Provide or create a good working environment by attending to personnel’s needs, and constantly improving individuals’ skill sets to enhance teambuilding.
  • Conduct hearings during disputes up to stage 3.
  • Ensuring productive well-disciplined work ethic is maintained.
  • Regular meetings and “one-on-one’s”, to build morale and create open and approachable relationships, whilst maintaining discipline.
  • Responsible for managing staff who work in the fishmeal production process. This includes recruiting, training, and supervising staff, as well as managing their schedules and workloads.
  • Possible operator rotation on vessels, to enlarge individual focus and eliminate complacency.
  • Improving safety, providing, more regular training on the equipment.

Data Capturing:

  • Compiling weekly production reports.
  • Ensure all production parameters are recorded and filed.
  • Filing of all production records for auditing purposes.
  • To produce a quality product that is fully traceable, affective control and record keeping is essential.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the production process complies with all relevant regulations and standards This includes keeping up to date with any changes to regulations and implementing any necessary changes to the production process.

What It Takes to Succeed:

Experience that set you up for success:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience supervising a team in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of working in a fishmeal plant would be advantageous

Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • An Engineering or Production Degree or Diploma is required
  • Professional certifications in Leadership will be an advantage

Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success:

  • Solid PC Literacy
  • Boiler understanding
  • Operating knowledge of Oil Fired Boiler
