Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our team in Milnerton, Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in the design and layout of fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings in accordance with national and international standards. You will play a critical role in ensuring life safety, compliance, and efficient system performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and layout of fire sprinkler systems using AutoCAD, Revit, or other CAD software.
- Perform hydraulic calculations and ensure designs comply with SANS 10287, NFPA, ASIB, or other relevant standards.
- Create detailed fabrication and installation drawings for use by the project and installation teams.
- Coordinate designs with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct site inspections and surveys to gather relevant data for design.
- Prepare material lists, data sheets, and specifications for procurement and installation.
- Provide technical support to sales and project managers.
- Ensure designs meet regulatory approval and submit necessary documentation to local authorities or ASIB.
- Keep up to date with fire protection regulations, products, and best practices.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Technology, or equivalent.
- ASIB/SANS 1475 knowledge and certification advantageous.
- AutoCAD (essential), Revit (advantageous).
Experience:
- 3-5+ years experience in Fire Sprinkler System design.
- Proven experience working on commercial, residential, and industrial projects.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of fire protection principles and sprinkler design standards.
- Proficient in hydraulic calculations software (e.g., HydraCALC, Canute).
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
Advantages (Not Essential):
- Membership with ECSA or similar professional bodies.
- Fire detection and suppression system knowledge.
- Previous experience dealing with fire inspections and commissioning.
