Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Proven experience working as a Health and Safety Officer, preferably in the Engineering Industry.
- In-depth knowledge of South African health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills to identify potential hazards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train employees and communicate safety policies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, ISO 45001) is highly desirable.
- Proficient in using computer software and applications related to safety management.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local and national regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Provide training to employees on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the use of safety equipment.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports outlining root causes and preventive measures.
- Collaborate with department heads to identify specific safety needs and develop customized safety programs.
- Monitor and assess workplace conditions, machinery, and equipment to ensure they meet safety regulations.
- Keep abreast of changes in health and safety regulations and ensure the company's compliance.
- Maintain records of inspections, training, and incidents, and produce regular reports for management review.
- Participate in safety committees and meetings to discuss and address safety concerns.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies for hazard mitigation.
