Installation Electrician - Solar

Description:

Our client is looking for an Installation Electrician to join their team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in solar PV system installations and electrical work, along with proven team management experience. A valid 3-phase Wireman’s License held for five years or longer is essential, as is a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities:

• Perform solar PV electrical installations, including grid-tied inverter systems and battery backup systems

• Commission systems and set up internet-based monitoring

• Conduct pre-emptive maintenance inspections and attend client callouts

• Separate essential and non-essential loads and implement energy efficiency measures

• Conduct site visits and prepare material lists

• Manage installation teams and subcontractors

• Maintain safety files and deliver toolbox talks

• Train and guide staff, perform tool inspections, and ensure accurate job card completion

• Coordinate installation schedules with the project manager

• Conduct pre-installation site visits and verify material readiness

• Ensure all work complies with electrical and OHS standards, including issuing of COCs

• Run daily team briefings and provide feedback to improve processes

• Update material and project progress lists, and communicate with teams via relevant platforms

Requirements:

• Valid 3-phase Installation Electrician Wireman’s License (held for at least 5 years)

• Applicable NQF level qualification for electricians

• Certified Installation Electrician with ability to test and sign off single and 3-phase COCs

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the electrical industry

• Knowledge of single and 3-phase systems, electrical testing, solar PV systems, inverters, and fault finding

• Familiarity with SANS 10142-1 (Edition 2) and NRS 097 Part 2

• Computer literate

• Valid South African driver’s license

• Police clearance

• Working at heights certificate (can be obtained post-appointment)

• Electrical license must be up to date

• Forklift endorsement is beneficial

• Salary: negotiable.
