SENIOR HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER
Overview: Manage, maintain and implement the Occupational Health and Safety Management System in the construction industry .
Duties:
Detailed knowledge of construction health and safety requirements at managerial and operational levels.
Design, compile, implement and manage the health
Mentor, coach, lead and guide Construction Health and Safety Officers
Structuring of regulating health and safety and appropriate legal framework for a construction project.
Facilitating the development of an organisational risk profile.
Designing health and safety management systems specific to construction projects.
Application of the principles and concepts of human resources planning and management and its application to the health and safety management system.
Budgeting required for the implementation of the health and safety management system.
Concepts and principles of interpretation and the use of occupational hygiene survey results.
Health and safety documentation and document control
The evaluation of health and safety training requirements
Auditing internal, external and third party
Legal compliance auditing
Project health and safety reporting
Management of change
Baseline risk assessment
Attend and participate in tender clarification meetings
Review the documentation programme with the clients principal consultant/agent
Assist the project team with detailed information for health and safety cost estimates/budgets
Liaise, co-operate and provide necessary health and safety information to the client, principal consultant and the other consultants
Manage the preparation of health and safety documentation for distribution to contractors for inclusion into their tender submissions
Facilitate the evaluation of the contractor(s) competencies, knowledge and resources to carry out the works safely
Facilitate the preparation of contract documentation related to health and safety requirements for approval and signature
Health and safety evaluations of contractors
Attend the site handover meeting and clarification of project specific requirements.
Ensure necessary documentation is submitted to the relevant authorities
Attend and participate in all project meetings
Manage the process for the assessments and approval of other contractor(s) health and safety plans
Facilitate health and safety site meetings
Monitor, measure and report on health and safety system performance through facilitating compliance health and safety audits
Evaluate the levels of compliance of contractors to the project specific health and safety plan and client specifications
Manage the necessary changes to the health and safety plans
Records of health and safety operations and maintenance reports
Health and safety close-out report
Requirements:
Grade 12
H ealth and safety qualifications
Samtrac and relevant safety courses
MUST be SACPCMP Registered
Construction health and safety management.
Construction project specific health and safety management systems
Health and safety performance measurement and monitoring
Relevant experience in the health and safety industry, with specific detail on construction experience.
Valid drivers
Must be prepared to travel
