This opportunity with an established, successful manufacturer / distributor as per the job title is for a qualified print operator with 5 years + experience in Flexographi printing / multi-coloured press machines within the packaging industry.
Job Purpose : To set-up and operate complex machines efficiently to accepted quality standards and productivity targets, as set by this Company. Accountable for safe operation and running of the machine to meet production standards.
This job description is generic to all machines at this Company even though the different machines may have different components.
Key responsibilities -
• . Safety and housekeeping
• Product knowledge, must have a good understanding what the Company does i.e., packaging manufacturers / distributors
• Running and fine tuning of machine without help from supervisor / line manager
• Troubleshooting in the event that machine/ ink / paper/ job gives trouble
• Setting up job within costed time frame
• Ensuring that waste vs actual waste target is met at all times
• Machine maintained in a good working condition
• Machine kept clean at all times
• Pre-make ready is done timeously
• Making sure the operator takes care of the assistants in terms of safety and good manufacturing practices
• Ensure that quality procedures are met according to the Company standard
• Ensure that BRC policy is followed according to the Company standard’s
• Ensure that safety policy is followed according to Company standards.
• In the event of a breakdown the operator must contact the line supervisor / HOD/ technician or maintenance
• Operator is responsible to ensure that the colour of each job is checked prior to going to machine.
• Ensure jobs bags are inspected prior to job going to machine
• Making sure the plates are checked before it goes to the machine
• Ensure that the proper paper is being used prior to going to the machine
• Proper line clearance is done after each job
• Ensure that proper traceability is always followed
• Ensure that Shopware procedures are followed according to Company standards
• Ensure that first off samples are done prior to the job being run
• Ensure that good discipline is maintained at all times
• Lubrication and general maintenance
• Complying to health and safety procedures and behaviour-based safety
• A team player, hardworking and have a high regard for safety and quality
• A tidy and detail orientated person
• The discipline to implement and follow systems and procedures
• Capable of working with the operations team and being their reminder, conscience and driver to get the necessary administration tasks done effectively and completely
Requirements:
- Matric
- A relevant tertiary qualification in the engineering or electrical field is an advantage
- As set out above, 5 years + experience in Flexographic printing / multi-coloured press machines within the packaging industry
- Mechanical aptitude / knowledge of mechanical machinery
- Able bodied and capable of physical work
- Literate and numerate, able to read, write and speak and follow directions in English
- KEY COMPETENCIES - Attention to detail and accuracy; ability to work under pressure; proactive; reliable and dependable; self-motivated; a team player, hardworking and must have a high regard for safety and quality; excellent oral and written communication in English
