An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced individual with a Mechanical or Marine Engineering background to join Sea Harvest Corporation in Saldanha Bay on the West Coast. This position is based in the Marine Engineering department and will focus on the refits of the vessels within the fleet.The Sea Harvest Group is a leading seafood, agri-processing and branded fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) business with a global footprint. POSITION: REFIT SUPERVISOR
REPORTING TO: REFIT MANAGER
PURPOSE: To assume responsibility for the overall supervision and technical operations of vessels assigned for refit. This includes all planning: budgeting, overseeing repairs, replacements, survey schedules, onboard pre-fit assessments of vessels, job scoping onboard vessel and accompanying vessels to various dry docks.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
DRYDOCKING / REFIT AND UPGRADE WORKS
1. Attend vessel dry docking, repairs and surveys when required and determine repair specifications for dry docking and maintenance.
2. Provide and compile documented reports upon completion of dry docking, including summaries of work performed, operational budgets, and actual expenditures.
3. Identify and source technical and operational supplies required for the vessels and ensure the rates are most economical.
4. Perform evaluation for dry-docking, repair quotes and selection of shipyards for repair works, ship maintenance etc.
STANDARDS AND SAFETY
1. Work closely with the Group Safety Management team to ensure smooth and successful implementation of Safety Management System and policies for the Division.
2. Perform systematic review of recommended codes, guidelines and standards and ensure compliance with Quality & Safety Management standards
3. Ensure that the Planned Maintenance System is implemented on vessels and that officers are trained and competent in using it.
4. Monitor the vessels maintenance and ensure the PMS is kept up to date.
5. Ensure that all Statutory, Class and equipment certificates are properly maintained and documented.
BUDGET AND FINANCIAL CONTROL
Perform budgeting and cost control measures on vessel spares and docking requirements.
TECHNICAL COMPLIANCE AND ASSISTANCE
1. Liaise with Fleet Operations on technical and operational matters including vessel performance.
2. Perform technical compliance audits and investigation on defects/failures on a scheduled basis to ensure conformance.
3. Perform monthly review of logs processes and attend vessel inspections.
4. Monitor the technical status of vessels with relation to class certificates and surveys
REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Marine engineering or Mechanical engineering qualification advantageous
• Minimum 5-10 years’ relevant engineering experience
• Knowledge of planned maintenance systems
• Knowledge of safety management systems and vessel surveys
• Report writing
• Attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
