Purpose
To actively support the Dean in meeting the strategic objectives and goals of the Student Affairs department through sports management. Further responsibilities include people management, financial management, and health and safety management.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Sports Management, Leadership, University Sport, or Project Management.
  • 8 years of relevant experience in managing a multi-sport organisaiton, coupled with experience in the sports industry in both public and private sector.
  • Driver’s license.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Willingness to work outside normal working hours.

Duties and responsibilities

1
. Strategic development and execution
  • Actively support the Dean in the achievement of the Student Affairs strategic objectives.
  • Provide input for Student Affairs strategy development.
  • Develop and Implement the Sports Strategy for the University with a focus on driving high performance sport.
2. Sport Management
  • Expose students to sports programmes.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of capacity building program for sports administrators, coaches, and technical officials.
  • Manage high performance sports development.
  • Oversee sports and recreational sports development.
  • Foster sports leadership among coaches and students.
  • Sports facilities management.
3. Policy and Procedure development
  • Develop and implement high performance sport strategy.
  • Provide input for the development of new Student Sport policies and procedures.
4. Health and Safety
  • Assist in identifying health, safety and security risks.
  • Inform health and safety representatives and Dean of Student Affairs about any health and safety issue.
  • Ensure health and safety representatives are appointed and properly trained.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all students and staff.
  • Ensure that health and safety rules and procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensure that students and staff are aware of emergency procedures and policies.
5. Quality assurance and risk manager
  • Promoting innovation in the Student Sport services and general administration.
  • Further develop and implement the quality assurance system to meet both internally set standards and the requirements of relevant external bodies.
  • Risk management.
  • Oversee Sports Equipment and sports Facilities.
6. Resources Manager: Human Resources
  • Manage Student Sport staff.
  • Ensure fair allocation of workloads.
  • Manage and provide input into job descriptions.
  • Manage operational activities.
  • Contribute to the recruitment process for positions in Student Sport.
  • Take responsibility for new staff induction.
  • Take responsibility for performance agreements for all staff.
  • Oversee staff training, development, coaching and mentoring.
  • Manage employment relations (grievance, discipline and conflict resolution)
  • Manage Student Sport staff leave.
7. Resource Management: budget, finance and procurement

  • Provide input into Student Sport operational, staffing and capex budget.
  • Manage section expenses against budget.
  • Develop a funding model for sports development, sport bursaries and high-performance sport.
  • Manage third stream income for high performance sport.
  • Asset management.
8. Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
  • Relevant strategic and operational reports as and when required.
  • Research and implement best practices.
  • Communicate and consult with relevant stakeholders.
