Description:
Minimum requirements- PhD within the discipline of textile science/engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years relevant teaching and/or textile industry experience in textile technology, manufacturing processes, or related areas (including teaching or training experience in Higher Education, industry, or training institutions).
- Candidates should be at the level of Senior Lecturers / Associate Professors or Professors.
- Strong background in academic leadership and scholarship.
- PhD within the discipline of dry processing of textile science/engineering. Undergraduate studies must include textile technology with a focus on dry processing subjects.
- Sound knowledge of the technical aspects of textile fabric manufacturing, product engineering, including but not limited to, fabric construction, quality, and raw materials (including textile fibres and yarns).
- A proven record of research publications and successful supervision within the field of textiles and related areas.
- A broad understanding of current research developments and teaching trends within the discipline.
- Evidence of ongoing academic development and professional growth.
- Evidence of involvement in community engagement projects.
Summary of duties
- Addressing student queries and complaints related to the Department/Programme.
- Managing and supervising departmental staff, including:
- Approval of staff leave.
- Fostering positive staff relations and building a collaborative, student-centered team.
- Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development.
- Overseeing the appointment of part-time and replacement staff.
- Manage program and project budgets.
- Enhancing Faculty projects, e.g., Postgraduate Recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, First Year Student Experience (FYSE), Orientation, and Graduation.
- Provide leadership in teaching, learning, and research within the department.
- Represent the department in relevant academic and professional forums.
