Description:
The Faculty of Applied Sciences seeks a qualified and experienced Research Administrator to support postgraduate research activities. The successful candidate will ensure efficient administrative processes and enhance the postgraduate student experience within the Faculty.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (Preference will be given to honours and master’s candidates) in a relevant field such as administration, finance, or a research-related discipline.
- Three (3) years of administrative experience, ideally in higher education or a research setting.
- In-depth understanding of postgraduate policies, research administration, and academic regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Familiarity with university systems (e.g., ITS/SAP) is advantageous.
Key Performance Areas:
- Guide and support postgraduate students and supervisors.
- Manage applications, admissions, registrations, and graduations for postgraduate programs.
- Maintain student databases and track research progress.
- Assist with bursary applications and research grant oversight.
- Organize seminars, workshops, and research events.
- Liaise between academic departments, supervisors, and research offices.
- Ensure compliance with university and national research policies.
- Prepare documentation for Faculty committees.
- Oversee project budgets, monitor spending, and produce financial reports.
- Coordinate logistics for research activities, including travel and meetings.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities with precision.
- Familiarity with funding agency guidelines (e.g., NRF, TIA, SETAS, DST).
