Job Description:
- Perform detailed designs for high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) substations, including electrical layouts, protection schemes, and earthing systems.
- Develop protection and control schemes tailored to substation operations, ensuring reliability and compliance with industry regulations.
- Compile design volumes, specifications and tender packages for substation-related projects.
- Ensuring that designs are efficient sustainable, and cost-effective.
- Prepare design criteria, detailed cost estimates and comprehensive bills of quantities to support project procurement and budgeting.
- Detailed project reports, as well as final “As-Built” documentation, in accordance with Eskom and client requirements.
- Managing the integration of multiple project disciplines to ensure smooth execution form design to commissioning.
- Technical advisor on all substation-related matters.
- Providing expert guidance to clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, contractors and regulatory authorities to align project objectives and secure the necessary project approvals
- Identify potential project risks related to design, execution, safety, and budget adherence.
- Develop mitigation strategies and ensure all risk are managed proactively.
- Bring expertise in grid interconnection, insuring smooth integration with existing power infrastructure.
- Work on projects that incorporate grid interconnections, leveraging innovative solutions to enhance the reliability and sustainability of power networks.
Key Qualification & Experience:
- B.Tech/B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering
- Seeking or holding registration with ECSA
- MS Office, AutoCAD
- Beneficial: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SafeGrid and similar software tools used for transmission and distribution line design and analysis.
- Experience working with EPCM and EPC project environment, particularly for outdoor substations and overhead line projects.
- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in MV and HV substation design, including the design of earthing systems, protection schemes, and control plants.
- Strong understanding of EPCM and EPC project environments.
- Experience with environmental impact assessments and land use requirements for overhead line projects in advantageous.
- Experience with integrating renewable energy solutions into transmission and distribution systems is a plus.
