Roles and ResponsibilitiesJob Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our organization's network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of networking principles, security protocols, and system architecture. You will work closely with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure network reliability, security, and performance, with a focus on South African cloud networks and compliance with local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, configure, and implement network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless networks. Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal efficiency. Maintain network security by implementing firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and access controls. Collaborate with IT teams to support system integration and cloud networking solutions, including South African cloud providers (e.g., Azure South Africa, AWS Africa Region, Google Cloud South Africa, Teraco). Perform network capacity planning, upgrades, and scalability assessments. Develop and enforce network policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance security and compliance with South African data protection laws (e.g., POPIA). Conduct regular network audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate risks. Configure and troubleshoot various network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and VoIP. Document network configurations, topologies, and system changes for future reference. Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and IT teams on network-related issues. Stay updated with emerging networking technologies, trends, and industry best practices. Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in network engineering, administration, or a similar role.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and VoIP. Proficiency in configuring and managing network hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, MikroTik, etc.). Experience with firewall security, VPNs, SD-WAN, and network monitoring tools. Familiarity with cloud networking solutions, including South African cloud service providers (AWS Africa, Azure South Africa, Google Cloud South Africa, Teraco). Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. Understanding of POPIA and other local data security regulations. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
