Description:
The Receiving Team Leader will oversee and manage the receiving operations within a clothing retail distribution centre. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and accurate receiving of merchandise, timely stock replenishment, and coordination between suppliers, warehouse staff, and other departments. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, ensuring a seamless flow of inventory into the warehouse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead and manage a team of receiving clerks and associates.
- Provide training, development, and guidance to team members.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and manage team performance to ensure departmental goals are met.
- Foster a collaborative and positive team environment to achieve high performance.
- Oversee the receipt of incoming goods from suppliers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure that all shipments are inspected, counted, and documented properly in the warehouse management system (WMS).
- Coordinate with inventory control teams to maintain proper stock levels, report discrepancies, and manage returns or damaged goods.
- Maintain organized and safe receiving areas, adhering to health and safety standards.
- Ensure that all incoming products meet the company’s quality standards and specifications.
- Address and resolve any issues with incorrect or damaged items in collaboration with the quality control team.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all receiving activities, including receipts, packing lists, and invoices.
- Maintain accurate records of inbound shipments and update inventory systems accordingly.
- Generate reports on receiving activities, inventory levels, and discrepancies as needed for senior management.
- Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in receiving operations.
- Collaborate with other departments (such as logistics, warehouse operations, and inventory control) to streamline workflows and resolve operational challenges.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safety regulations.
- Promote and enforce proper safety protocols for the receiving team and warehouse environment.
- Monitor and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Act as the main point of contact between suppliers, transportation teams, and warehouse operations.
- Communicate effectively with other departments regarding any delays, discrepancies, or urgent needs.
- Participate in regular team meetings to update and align on key priorities.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a receiving or warehouse environment, preferably in a retail or distribution center setting.
- Leadership: Previous experience leading a team, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and manage people effectively.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS), Microsoft Office Suite, and inventory tracking systems.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of receiving and inventory management procedures, quality control, and supply chain operations.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and stand for long periods of time. Comfort working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
