Description:
Our client is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join their team in Bellville, WC. The successful candidate must be professionally registered and have proven managerial or supervisory experience. This role involves transformer design, manufacturing support, and project management, with a strong focus on process optimisation, technical analysis, and the implementation of energy solutions including MV and LV systems, generators, and renewable energy projects.
Responsibilities:

Provide technical support and troubleshooting to improve equipment effectiveness

Evaluate technical team performance and recommend improvements
-
Verify installation designs, fault levels, and equipment specifications
-
Assist with electrical designs and ensure compliance with safety standards
-
Research new technologies, materials, and processes
-
Supervise and coordinate technical investigations
-
Develop and implement SOPs and work instructions with engineering and production teams
-
Liaise with customers and manage MV project design, proposals, and approvals
-
Assist with MV, LV, and generator projects
-
Participate in PV and battery storage projects
-
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
-
Define project specifications based on product design and customer requirements
-
Compile and maintain project plans using MS Project and Gantt charts

Manage and develop technical staff
Requirements:
-
Professionally registered with ECSA (registration must be complete, not in progress)
-
Proven managerial or supervisory experience
-
BSc Eng or BEng (Electrical)
-
Government Certificate of Competency (advantageous)
-
MV design experience
-
5–8 years' experience in a senior role within manufacturing, design, and project environments
-
Experience with electrical fault level calculations
-
Knowledge of LV and MV protection systems and calculations
-
Grounding system design and calculations
-
Experience with transformers, switchgear, and related equipment
-
Understanding of distribution transformer design for solar, wind, and converter units
-
Knowledge of harmonics in electrical networks and mitigation techniques
-
Familiarity with SABS 10142 (Parts 1 & 2)
-
Ability to investigate and analyse site issues (e.g., earth fault relay tripping on PV systems)
-
Knowledge of dry type Minisub (cast resin) design
-
Experience with new technology implementation (e.g., transformer protection panel upgrades)
-
Strong communication and customer liaison skills

High attention to detail and accuracy

Self-motivated and results-driven

Effective time management and teamwork skills

Computer literate with process modelling and simulation software proficiency

Ability to manage pressure and complex projects
