Description:
MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible for overseeing and promoting a safe working environment across all operations. This role involves monitoring workplace activities to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations / Mine Health and Safety (MHS) regulations, company policies, and best practices. The Safety Officer also leads investigations, develops safety training, and supports continuous improvement of safety standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify all required Statutory and Regulatory Legislation applicable to the Company and its scope of operations and ensure the organisation is aware of, and complies with, all legislation relating to its duty of care, workplace activities and the use of its plant, equipment and substances.
Establish annual Health & Safety Training Programmes for all personnel on all Sites including Head Office
Raise non-conformances and Implement closure of any identified non-conformances.
Analyse all applicable Records to identify negative / positive trends.
Initiate and effectively implement any necessary actions / controls to prevent a recurrence of similar problems / incidents / negative trends.
Ensure that the working conditions of the company are favourable and safe.
Develop and implement Health and Safety Strategies, which include Objectives and Targets in conjunction with Managers.
Conduct SHE performance evaluation audits and inspections in departments and report on SHE performance and trends.
Promote a culture in which Safety, Health, Environment and Quality is seen as important values within the Company.
Provide support to Managers and sites on all SHE related matters.
Maintain and build strategic relationships with SHE stakeholders, specialists and clients.
Ensure as far as reasonably practicable all SHE legislation and other requirements are adhered to.
Continuously provide new methods and ideas to improve SHE in the workplace.
Ensure Legal Appointments is done according to the OHSA/ MHSA
Site Safety Compliance / Safety Implementations
Ensure that all required training of employees is up to date.
Ensure that all employees have valid medicals and inductions as required.
Accountable for all site-specific safety files
Risk Assessment and Method Statement Review
Conduct Safety Inductions
Incident / Accident Investigations
Any other reasonable tasks that the incumbent may be required to do
Requirements:
- Hazardous Analysis: 5 to 6 years
- Health And Safety Officer: 5 to 6 years
- Incident Investigation: 5 to 6 years
- Safety Practices: 5 to 6 years
Grade 12 and a Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Management
5+ years’ experience in a similar role in the mining /manufacturing industry
Valid Drivers License

Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
The successful applicant must be willing and able to travel to various project sites as required.
Ability to remain patient and adaptable when faced with uncertainty or when plans change unexpectedly.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, especially on mining sites.
