About the role:
As our Social Media Manager, you will be the voice and personality of Eat Out and VISI across all our social media channels. You will be responsible for developing and executing engaging social media strategies that build the brands, grow audiences, drive traffic to the websites, while fostering a vibrant community across both consumer and industry sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to shape Eat Out and VISI’s online presence and play a key role in connecting South Africans with incredible dining and design experiences.
What you would do:
- Strategy development and execution: Develop and implement comprehensive social media strategies aligned with Eat Out and VIS’s overall brand objectives.
- Content creation and curation: Create compelling and engaging content (text, images, videos, stories, live sessions) that showcases South Africa's diverse culinary landscape, industry and awards news (Eat Out), and the best in local and international design, decor and architecture (for VISI). This includes paid content for our advertising partners.
- Community management: Actively engage with the Eat Out and VISI online social community, respond to comments and messages, engage in crisis communication if necessary and foster positive interactions.
- Platform management: Oversee and manage all Eat Out and VISI’s social media accounts (including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, and potentially emerging platforms).
- Performance monitoring and analysis: Track, analyze, and report on social media performance using relevant metrics to identify trends, insights, and areas for optimization.
- Budget management: Oversee and track social media boosting budget.
- Trend identification: Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices, and proactively recommend innovative approaches.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the editorial, marketing, and sales teams to ensure cohesive messaging and integrated campaigns.
- Content calendar management: Develop and maintain a detailed social media content calendar, ensuring timely and relevant posts.
- Brand voice consistency: Maintain a consistent and engaging brand voice across all social media platforms that reflects the Eat Out and VISI brand personality.
- Campaign management: Plan and execute social media campaigns to support key Eat Out and VISI initiatives, events, and partnerships.
- Editorial assistance: Support the Head of Content (Eat Out) and Digital Editor (VISI) and commercial team with relevant website content that calls for content creation tasks.
- Brand ambassador: Represent the brand in the market by attending events, restaurant launches and various industry-related events.
What we require:
- Proven experience (5+ years) in managing social media accounts for a brand, preferably within the food, lifestyle, travel and design industry.
- A deep understanding of social media platforms, their algorithms, and best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for crafting engaging and compelling content with a focus on caption copy.
- Strong visual storytelling skills and experience with photo and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, basic video editing software).
- A passion for food and a deep understanding of the South African restaurant scene and its key roleplayers.
- An interest in design and a deep understanding of South Africa’s creative landscape, including key figures in the architecture, decor, interior design and art industry.
- Experience with social media analytics tools and the ability to interpret data to inform strategy.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects at a time, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A creative and proactive approach with a willingness to experiment and learn.
- Relevant qualification in social media marketing, communications, or a related field is advantageous.
