Description:
Key Responsibilities:Solar System Design: Develop, design, and optimize solar PV systems for residential, commercial, and industrial applications, ensuring that designs meet local standards and project specifications. Electrical Design: Lead the electrical design aspects of solar installations, including the integration of inverters, battery storage, and other electrical systems in line with industry best practices. Project Management: Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to ensure the timely and successful execution of solar projects. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with local regulations and ensure all designs and implementations comply with South African energy standards and regulations, such as SANS 10142 and the South African National Standards (SANS) for PV systems. Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and support for junior engineers and other team members working on solar projects. Problem-Solving and Innovation: Identify and resolve technical issues during the design and implementation phases, ensuring efficient problem-solving and minimal delays. Stakeholder Interaction: Work closely with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met, providing exceptional technical support and project updates. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and implementation of new solar technologies and processes to improve the efficiency and sustainability of solar projects.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements: A Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field from an accredited institution. Certifications: Professional certifications in Solar Energy: (e.g., SAIEE certification, SANS 10142 compliance, or equivalent qualifications in solar engineering). Solar PV Design Certification: Ideally certified through reputable programs such as SAPVIA or CPD-accredited PV Design courses. Project Management Certification is a plus Experience: A minimum of 4-7 years of experience in the solar industry, specifically with solar PV system design and electrical engineering. Proven experience in the design, installation, and commissioning of solar energy systems (including grid-tied and off-grid systems). Hands-on experience with software tools used in solar design, such as PVSyst, HOMER, AutoCAD, or similar design platforms.
