We are offering a Graduate Internship: Intern – Gender Mainstreaming Support , reporting to the SAGEN-CET Programme Manager. This six (06) month opportunity is designed for a motivated graduate ready to contribute to gender-responsive action, stakeholder engagement, and impactful communication within the energy sector.

What we need from you - Qualifications, Competencies and Experience

Completed undergraduate degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Gender Studies
  • Social Sciences
  • Environmental Studies
  • Energy Policy
  • Development Studies
  • Or a related field with strong relevance to social and energy transition themes

What will you be doing?

As an intern, you will play a key supporting role in advancing gender mainstreaming within South Africa’s energy transition. Under the supervision of the Gender Mainstreaming Technical Advisor and in collaboration with the wider project team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and collaborating with cross-functional teams in the coordination and implementation of gender-focused activities within the energy sector.
  • Assisting with stakeholder engagement to help advance gender-responsive policies, strategies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Contributing to the design and development of new initiatives related to gender equality and women’s empowerment in the energy sector.
  • Assisting with the execution of communication and knowledge management activities, including the planning and coordination of meetings, workshops, seminars, training sessions, and other stakeholder engagement events.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support such as scheduling, preparing materials, documenting meeting outcomes, and tracking action items.
  • Supporting overall project coordination and management tasks, including reporting, operational planning, and monitoring of project activities.
  • Contributing to the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system by gathering relevant data and preparing reporting inputs.
  • Keeping abreast of current trends, policy developments, and best practices related to gender equality in the energy sector.

  • Applicants must be South African citizens or hold a valid Permanent Residency permit.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously participated in any internship programme.

  • The internship will be based at the GIZ offices in Hatfield, Pretoria .

  • This is a six-month internship , in line with GIZ’s internship policy and regulations.
