Job Title: Engineering Manager – Paper/Carton Manufacturing (GCC Factories)Location: East Rand Industry: Must be from Paper / Carton / Packaging ManufacturingReporting to: Plant Manager and Operations DirectorType: PermanentJob Overview:We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified Engineering Manager with a strong background in automated machinery within a plant environment. The ideal candidate will have a GCC Factories certification and hold a BSc or BEng in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering. Experience in paper, carton, or related packaging manufacturing is essential. This role is critical to ensuring plant equipment reliability, driving continuous improvement, and managing the overall engineering function within the facility.Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and develop the plant’s engineering and maintenance teams.
- Oversee all aspects of automated machinery and control systems , ensuring optimal uptime and performance.
- Ensure compliance with OHSACT and legal requirements, including GCC Factories responsibilities.
- Implement and manage preventative and predictive maintenance systems and schedules.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize plant efficiency, reduce downtime, and increase throughput.
- Manage engineering projects, including CAPEX budgeting, installations, and equipment upgrades.
- Liaise with production, quality, and other departments to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Ensure the plant complies with all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Lead automation and control systems development, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Develop training programs to upskill technical and maintenance teams.
Minimum Requirements:
- BSc/BEng Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering .
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Factories) – essential .
- Minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or management role .
- Proven experience in a highly automated plant – ideally within paper, carton, or packaging manufacturing .
- Strong knowledge of PLC systems, SCADA, drives, sensors, and automated production lines .
- Excellent leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
- Strong understanding of maintenance best practices, TPM, and reliability engineering principles.
