Our client in Brits is looking for a Strata Control Officer to join their team Qualifications:- Grade 12
- COM Strata Control Certificate (Metalliferous)
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience as a Strata Control Officer / Observer
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office. Understanding of modelling software is an added advantage
- Sound knowledge of the mining environment, with respect to stopping and development
- Knowledge and understanding of geological structures for application in Strata Control observations
- Knowledge and understanding of support systems and standards
- No criminal record
- Must have a valid drivers license and own transport
- Conduct routine and ad-hoc inspections of underground work areas to assess rock mass conditions and the effectiveness of strata control plans.
- Observe and document strata conditions, including identifying potential hazards and areas of concern.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of recommended support systems and compliance with safety regulations.
- Identify and report on deviations from control plans and safety procedures.
- Determine tunnel and panel risk ratings to assess safe working conditions.
- Conduct support audits and make recommendations regarding the safety of work areas.
- Identify and mitigate geotechnical risks, issuing instructions to relevant mining personnel.
- Compile reports of audits and assessments, including reporting yellow and red strata triggers to applicable supervisory levels.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders, including production and technical services departments.
- Participate in short-term planning meetings to ensure safe and efficient mining operations.
- Apply knowledge of rock mechanics and strata control principles to ensure the safe and economic design of mine workings.
- Assist the Senior Rock Engineer with strata control issues in their area of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with rock engineering standards.
- Provide coaching and advice to operational stakeholders related to strata control services and support.
- Train mining personnel on geotechnical issues and safe working practices.
- Collect rock mass data to enable interpretation and provide recommendations to the mining department
- Provide rock engineering input into accident and or incident investigations
