Minimum requirements for the role:
A matric with accounting as a subject is essential. A diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field is highly desirable but not essential. A Certified Bookkeeper (South African Institute of Business Accountants) or SAIPA (South African Institute of Professional Accountants) is preferred. Proven experience working as a bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role is essential for this role. Previous experience working with South African accounting standards and tax laws is essential. Must be proficient with accounting software such as Pastel, QuickBooks, or Sage. Must be familiar with SARS e-filing, payroll systems, and VAT compliance. Must have an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools. Must have a strong understanding of South African tax regulations, including PAYE, VAT, UIF, and SDL. Knowledge of financial reporting and bookkeeping best practices. Familiarity with IFRS for SMES and other South African accounting standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with South African financial and tax regulations. This role requires attention to detail, familiarity with local accounting standards, and the ability to work closely with management to ensure accurate financial reporting. Accurately recording all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank transactions. Ensuring that transactions are properly classified in the general ledger. Reconciling bank statements, credit card accounts, and other financial records to ensure accuracy.
Monitoring and reconciling petty cash accounts. Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements). Generating reports to help management make informed financial decisions. Processing payroll, ensuring correct deductions for tax (PAYE), UIF, and SDL (skills development levy). Submitting SARS Reports for payroll taxes. Assisting in the preparation of tax returns and other compliance reports, including the use of SARS e-filing. Monitoring outstanding invoices and ensure timely payment to suppliers. Tracking overdue accounts and following up on receivables. Ensuring customers payments are processed and recorded correctly. Assisting with budgeting and financial forecasting by providing accurate financial data.
