Job Overview:The Carpenter will be responsible for crafting, assembling, repairing, and finishing high-quality furniture according to design specifications. This includes working with wood and other materials to produce custom pieces for retail or client orders, ensuring attention to detail and high craftsmanship standards.Key Responsibilities:Furniture ProductionBuild custom and standard furniture items such as tables, chairs, cabinets, headboards, and wardrobesInterpret technical drawings, sketches, and blueprintsMeasure, cut, shape, and assemble wood and other materialsOperate woodworking machinery such as saws, planers, sanders, and routersQuality ControlInspect finished products for accuracy, structural integrity, and finish qualityRepair or rework items that don’t meet quality standardsEnsure all products meet customer expectations and shop standardsWorkshop OperationsMaintain a clean, safe, and organized workspaceFollow health and safety regulations in the use of tools and materialsAssist with loading, delivery prep, and on-site installation when requiredFinishing & DetailingApply finishes such as sanding, staining, painting, or varnishingInstall hardware (e.g., handles, hinges, fittings)Work with upholsterers and other departments when needed Minimum Qualifications & Experience:- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
- Carpentry Trade Certificate (advantageous but not always required)
- 2–5 years' experience in furniture making or carpentry
- Skilled in working with hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings or design sketches
- Strong understanding of wood types, finishes, and construction methods
- Attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
- Good time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Team player with a strong work ethic
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy materials or furniture
- Customer service experience for custom work or delivery/installations
Requirements:
