Description:
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:To protect employees' health and safety by identifying all possible risks in the South Arm shore-based workplace and implementing measures to either prevent or mitigate against these. In doing so to also ensure all employees comply with all the provisions of the Company's Health & Safety Policy and all applicable health and safety regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- ND in Safety Management or equivalent
- 5-7 years' industry related experience
- Thorough knowledge of relevant local safety, OHS Act & Regulations, COID Act.
- A good working knowledge of health and safety systems, e.g. OHSAS 18001, Marsh Risk Control Standard, ISO 45001 Standard, ISO 14001 Standard, etc.
- SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, Hazard identification and Risk Assessments, Legal Compliance Assessments and other NOSA or similar training would be beneficial
- Computer Literacy - MS Office (with a high proficiency in MS Excel).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
- Maintaining the organization's health and safety management system/program.
- Developing, implementing and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures in the workplace in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act No.85 of 1993 and Regulations.
- Continuously monitor, improve and update the health and safety system.
- Communicating all health and safety related information to all levels in the organization.
- Assist with conducting and reporting in quarterly Health and Safety meetings with employees and all committee members.
- Ensure that all Safety and Health incidents / accidents are reported, recorded immediately and apply corrective action rectifications.
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment, poor housekeeping, smoking, etc.)
- Maintaining and coordinating the contractor's management system to ensure compliance of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

- Ability to work under pressure and to work independently.
- Attention to detail, to plan and organize.
